Why does osteochondrosis occur?

Imagine the Ostankino TV tower, which is held in a vertical position by a system of cables running from its base to the top.

In the same way, our spine is kept in the necessary position by the group of muscle-stabilizers, which normally distributes the load evenly on the spine and joints. Unlike the Ostankino TV tower, our spine has a more complex structure, it can bend in different directions and even twist, all this is possible thanks to intervertebral discs, muscles and ligaments.

Every day a person performs some similar, repetitive movements related to work or leisure. If the same muscles work for a long time, they are overstressed and contracted, while the other muscles are not subjected to any load at that time and degenerate. This leads to a change in the “geometry” of the body, the load on the intervertebral disc is redistributed, nutrition deteriorates. The same processes take place during hard single-wire work. In addition, the intervertebral disc does not have blood vessels, and its nutrition is carried out thanks to the surrounding muscles, and during the movements of the intervertebral joint, the nutritious synovial fluid penetrates into it.

Cartilage tissue consists of 80-85% water, therefore, the drinking regime is of great importance. During the day, a person should drink at least 2 liters of clean water. If insufficient amount of water is introduced into the body, the intervertebral disc becomes dehydrated, the cartilage dries up and breaks down.

Stresses, anxiety, emotional experiences often contribute to back pain. Our body perceives any stressful situation as a danger. In that case, the sympathetic part of the nervous system is activated, the adrenal glands “release” stress hormones into the blood, blood pressure increases, heart palpitations increase, and muscles tense up. In nature, when an animal is afraid, it runs or defends itself, therefore, stress hormones are burned and the muscles are weakened by working. Man is a social being, there are many reasons to worry, but he moves little, therefore, discharge does not take place. As a result, there is pain in the spine, headache, movement tics, etc.

In the literature, you can find different formulations of osteochondrosis, but the essence is the same. Osteochondrosis is the “damage” of the motor segment, the degeneration and destruction of the cartilaginous tissue. The reason is the wrong motor stereotype and, as a consequence, the cartilage nutrition disorder.

A sedentary lifestyle, heavy physical exertion, weight gain, obesity, carrying a bag on one shoulder, high-heeled shoes, too soft mattress for sleeping, frequent overcooling, bad habits, hereditary predisposition, stressful situations, insufficient fluid intake, etc. contribute to the growth of osteochondrosis.
